Every conflict we face in life is rich with positive and negative potential. It can be a source of inspiration, enlightenment, learning, transformation, and growth?or rage, fear, shame, entrapment, and resistance. The choice is not up to our opponents, but to us, and our willingness to face and work through them. - Kenneth Cloke and Joan Goldsmith

Mediation is a voluntary, confidential and cooperative problem solving process to resolve conflict with the help of a neutral professional. The role of the mediator is to facilitate communication between the parties, assist them in clarifying the issues, and generating options that meet the interests or needs of all participants in an effort to resolve the conflict.

Eileen McCarten is a court approved mediator for Winnebago and Boone County and a contract mediator in Wisconsin. She is an advanced practitioner with the Association of Conflict Resolution, and a member of the Mediation Council of Illinois, Wisconsin Association of Mediation and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
